About the Claim

The settlement includes financial redress, cultural revitalisation initiatives, and the return of key lands and sites of significance to Ngāti Tamaterā. Comprehensive documentation associated with the Treaty Settlement, including the Deed of Settlement, Settlement Legislation, and supporting historical reports, is available for our iwi members. These documents outline the specifics of the settlement, detailing the agreed terms, processes, and the benefits it brings to our community. By securing this settlement, Ngāti Tamaterā can look forward to a future of strengthened cultural identity, economic development, and enhanced mana within our rohe.



Te Rohe o Ngāti Tamaterā

The Ngāti Tamaterā boundaries (rohe) extends from Mahurangi in the north to Ngā Kurī a Whārei (Bowentown) in

the south.

Encompassing the islands and shores of Tīkapa Moana/ Hauraki Gulf from Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsula, to the islands and shores of Tīkapa Moana including Hauraki’s eastern seaboard, reaching southwards to Katikati and Te Puna (the region between southern Hauraki and

the western Bay of Plenty).

This is expressed by Ngāti Tamaterā as “mai Matakana ki Matakana.”
